SCHOOL HOLIDAY DIY
What do you do when it's school holidays and it's raining and
your car is at the mechanics? Other than despair, that is. It's been a
while since we've made play dough at home. And honestly, I wasn't sure
that the children were still into the whole play dough thing (plus, Jude
would likely just try to eat it). But I was feeling guilty about all
the screen time they have been having recently so I was reluctant to
just hand them their tablets. And as most mothers can testify, mother
guilt is one of the world's most powerful motivators. I found a recipe
on @the.small.folk
Instagram account that was super simple. We boiled blueberries and
added it to the dough to get that rich purple colour and then we scented
it with lavender from our garden. To my surprise, the children spent a
good hour playing with their homemade dough. It was actually a big hit.
I'll pop the recipe below as it can be a little tricky to find.
And, yes, Jude did try to eat it.
PLAY DOUGH RECIPE
you will need:
- 2 cups of plain flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 3 tablespoons of cream of tartar
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 cups of boiling water
- A large glass bowl and spoon
instructions:
- Place dry ingredients into the bowl
- Add wet ingredients and stir
- Knead until smooth
That's it! So simple, right? When they've finished playing with it simply pop it in an airtight container in the fridge and it should last approximately 2-3 months.
